About

Kojiki (яп. 古事記/こじき) is a studio album by the Japanese New Age musician Kitarō, released in 1990. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award.

  • Concept: The album's musical material is based on the «Kojiki»—a classic ancient Japanese text containing myths, legends, and semi-historical chronicles about the creation of Japan and its people.
  • Musical Style: It blends elements of ethnic music, progressive electronics, contemporary instrumental music, and New Age. It features Kitarō's signature synthesizer sounds and flutes, complemented by the string section of the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra (George Lucas's orchestra).
  • Recognition: The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
  • Track «Matsuri»: The flute music and prelude from the composition «Matsuri» partially influenced the soundtrack for the Bollywood film «Gupt» (1997).
"Kitaro's best album in my opinion. from beginning to end it's an absolutely gorgeous journey. essentially about the beginning and birth of Japan but also human achievements."
